Val Gardena in winter without skiing.

By · published November 1, 2026

The snow in Val Gardena is not only for skiers: sledding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, winter walks and ice skating, for families and for anyone travelling with skiers. Here is where to go, with lengths, times and prices from the valley's official website.

In short

In Val Gardena you can enjoy the snow without skiing. The longest toboggan run is the Resciesa in Ortisei, about 3 km, which you can also do at night after dinner in a mountain hut; four more are on the Alpe di Siusi (Seiser Alm). Cross-country skiers have more than 133 km of trails at Monte Pana, Vallunga and the Alpe di Siusi. You can ice skate in Selva, Santa Cristina and Ortisei. Helmets are compulsory on toboggans; for snowshoeing a guided tour is recommended.

Sledding.

Toboggans can be hired at many huts and lifts. Helmets are compulsory, you sled at your own risk, sledding on ski slopes is forbidden and, as a rule, you may not walk up or down the toboggan run.

Resciesa, Ortisei · 3 km

From the top station of the Resciesa funicular to the middle station: the longest run in the valley. You can do it at night too: ride up by funicular, have dinner at altitude and sled down by torchlight.

Alpe di Siusi · 1.7 to 2.9 km

From Hotel Icaro to Hotel Monte Piz (1.7 km), at the Bullaccia lift (1.8 km), from the Mahlknecht hut to Saltria (2.8 km) and from the Williams hut to Saltria (2.9 km). There is also a toboggan park, good for children's first runs.

At night

On the Resciesa and the Alpe di Siusi you can sled after sunset, usually after dinner in a hut. Lifts and huts set the evenings and times: ask first.

Cross-country skiing.

Three areas and more than 133 km of groomed trails for every level. The Monte Pana/Alpe di Siusi day ticket costs €12, the weekly €54 and the season ticket €130; with Dolomiti NordicSki (about 900 km of trails on one ticket) the weekly costs €65 and the season ticket €145, free up to age 14. Tickets do not include lifts. Prices read on the official website on 1/11/2026: check before you go.

Monte Pana, Santa Cristina

More than 30 km from the Monte Pana cross-country centre: Mont Dessot 2.5 km and Palusc 5.2 km easy (blue), La Buja 6.7 km medium (red), Vedl Verzon 3.3 km and Val Scura 7.5 km difficult (black), plus an 8 km link to the Alpe di Siusi.

Vallunga, Selva · 1,600-1,800 m

In the Puez-Odle nature park, 15-20 minutes on foot from Selva church. Easy loops of 1.5 and 3 km, a medium 5 km loop and a difficult 10 km loop. La Ciajota car park.

Alpe di Siusi · 1,700-2,000 m

80 km of sunny trails starting at Hotel Sole, reached by gondola and chairlift. Rental and lessons near the top station of the gondola.

Snowshoes and winter walks.

Snowshoes let you walk on snowy meadows and in fresh snow; without them, many groomed winter trails cross meadows and woods with benches and viewpoints. The official website recommends a guided tour with a local mountain guide and checking snow conditions and avalanche danger first: you go at your own risk.

Vallunga

The DSV Nordic Active Park in Vallunga, Selva, is used in winter for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Suggested routes

Among those listed on the official website: the Val Gardena railway trail, the Alpe di Siusi panoramic tour via La Selva, Cisles, Selva - Gardena Pass and the short village walk in Ortisei.

The valley's mountain guides and hiking leaders run snowshoe tours: book them through the tourist offices and ski schools.
