What it is like to ride.

It is a modern road, 46 km long with 26 bridges and tunnels: wide, flowing bends instead of the tight hairpins of older passes. From Innertkirchen the climb is 27 km (1,599 m of ascent), from Wassen 17.7 km (1,308 m). It is closed in winter.

What to see.

On the Bern side the road passes the Steingletscher, the glacier that is one of the pass's main sights. In 1798–1799, during the French Revolutionary Wars, the Susten was a military corridor.
