In short
The Costalunga Pass (1,745 m, Karerpass in German) links Val di Fassa with Val d'Ega and Bolzano, between the Catinaccio (Rosengarten) and the Latemar, on the border between Trentino and South Tyrol. Just below, towards Nova Levante, lies Lake Carezza.
Updated October 2026What it is like to ride.
It is an easy, flowing pass with moderate gradients and few hairpins, but busy, as it is the easiest route between Val di Fassa and Bolzano. The Bolzano side is a long climb up Val d'Ega. Just below the top, a road branches off to the Nigra Pass and Val di Tires.
The climbs in numbers.

What to see.
From the pass you see the Catinaccio and the Latemar; a few kilometres away is Lake Carezza, with the Latemar reflected in the water. The Giro d'Italia has crossed it since the 1930s: in 1937 Gino Bartali was first over the top.
